Jiggs

Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers Cultivar Jiggs

Jiggs is one of the most recent cultivars introduced in Brazil. It results from the selection of bermudagrass by a farmer in East Texas. With its high adaptation capacity, it has aroused the interest mainly of horse and cattle breeders.

  • Perennial Plant;
  • Intermediate sized;
  • It forms a dense canopy;
  • Thin leaves and stolons;
  • Not much rhizome;
  • Rapid initial growth;
  • Fasciculated root system;
  • In the dry matter, it has 20% to 22% crude protein;
  • It is demanding in terms of soil fertility;
  • It produces about 20 ton/ha/yr of dry matter;
